Upcoming Events

Humane Education (January through May): The Humane Educational Society is joining forces with the Department of Education to enhance a child’s path to becoming a responsible and caring person. By incorporating Hamilton County School Character traits, HES is creating awareness and educating a more humane ethic for treating and viewing animals.

Spay Day USA (February 27th): Want to inspire people to spay and neuter their pets, improve pet health, and help end the tragedy of pet overpopulation—all in one day? Get involved in the 13th annual Spay Day USA on February 27, 2007. Hundreds of humane organizations participate each year, increasing their public profiles and reducing the number of accidental litters born in the spring. During Spay Day USA’s first 12 years, participants spayed or neutered an estimated 1,366,000 animals.

Teacher’s Pet (March): Show your school spirit by participating in Teacher’s Pet; a fundraiser involving teachers and students in Hamilton County, benefiting the Humane Educational Society.

Rabies Clinic (April): The Humane Educational Society, the Hamilton County Veterinary Association and the Hamilton County Health Department come together to provide low-cost rabies shots and licensing for individuals in Chattanooga and Hamilton County.

Riverbend (June 8-16): The Humane Educational Society will have a tent the entire week of Riverbend to promote animal awareness. HES will also have several animals available for adoption every night of the festival.

Paws in the Park (October 13th): The Humane Educational Society will hold the 6th annual Paws in the Park at Coolidge Park. This event is a wonderful opportunity to bring your dog to Coolidge Park and walk for the animals. This past year almost 1,000 individuals attended with their four legged friends and $40,000.00 was raised to help animals in our community. Next year the event will be bigger than ever.

Home 4 the Holidays (Nov.- Dec.): Home 4 the Holidays is a collaborative effort of shelters throughout the United States and the Helen Hayward Animal Center. The purpose is to find a home for orphaned animals during the holiday season. This year the goal was 350,000 homes and this is the largest adoption drive in history.
