Feed the Animals™

Protection Services Manager, David Hutton, loads up his
vehicle with pet food for Highland Park.
Feed the Animals™ is a program through the Humane
Educational Society that assists the people and their pets
in our community. The program was created by HES Animal
Protection Services Manager David Hutton to help residents
down on their luck and keep more pets from being surrendered
into shelters. The economy and the significant increase in
foreclosures have made it even harder for people to care for
their animals.
Enough Food to go Around: Linda, a Rossville Georgia
resident was in need of some assistance recently. She had
been sharing what little was left of her meals with her 4
rescued dogs. Linda is sweet elderly woman who has cancer
and lives on a fixed income. A friend to the Humane
Educational Society, Ruth Smith contacted HES about Linda.
Through our Feed the Animals™ program, Linda is able to feed
her dogs what they need. "All I have are my babies and what
HES has done really touched me" says Linda.
Please help the animals today!
Grooming is Not Just for Good Looks:
Diana in Red Bank could not afford to have her
dogs groomed. The dogs had become extremely
matted to the point of discomfort. HES teamed up
with Adorable Pets on 131 Highway 41 to have
Diana's animal companions groomed. Animal hair
(vs. fur) grows just like human hair. If the
hair is not continuously brushed and/or cut it
will develop mats that will become painful if
not taken care of properly. Grooming is vital to
every pet's health and well-being. Because of
the Feed the Animals™ program, Diana's dogs are
much happier and healthier now.

Have a Heart for Highland Park Campaign:
On Valentines Day this year, HES drove through
Highland Park (one of our neediest pet areas in
Chattanooga) handing out free dog and cat food,
blankets, cedar shavings, dog houses and
fencing. Through our Feed the Animals™ program,
we are able to keep Highland Park animal
guardians and animal companions together.
Over the past year and a half, HES has given out
thousands of dollars worth of food, shelter,
free alteration and other critical surgeries to
help people in our community that have lost
their jobs or have some other serious reason
that they can not give their animals the care
they desperately need.
The only other option for most of these people
would be to turn their animals in at our shelter
or another in their area. Friend of HES, Ruth
Smith says "I hope the Feed the Animals™ program
continues to be supported in today's difficult
economy. People are losing their jobs and their
homes; to also lose their animal companion whom
they love as a vital member of their family
would be devastating."
"I am proud of the amount of animals the Feed
the Animals™ program has been able to help and
only hope that people continue to give to help
those less fortunate", say's HES Protection
Officer Hutton.
Your donation will help your neighbors and their
animals during this most difficult time. Please
give to help both our two and four legged
friends today.
All donations, regardless of how small are
welcome.
