Foster Care Application Information

Welcome to the Humane Educational Society and the Margaret Brock Pet Adoption Center.

An application is requested so that your foster care counselor can assist you and the animal that may end up in your care. The animals that are available for adoption as well as in foster homes have come through a variety of sources. All animals are examined upon entry, and their health is routinely monitored while at the shelter, but there is always a chance that an animal is incubating a disease without showing any clinical signs.

While fostering an animal you must make the animal available to the public including bringing the animal to adoption events, or routinely visiting the shelter with the animal to try and promote the animal for adoption. Animals must be returned to the HES if not adopted within 4 months of leaving the shelter.

If an animal becomes ill while in your care you must report the illness to the HES immediately. Animals being placed in foster care will be spayed/neutered and rabies inoculated before they are adopted. The foster parent agrees to assume extra medical care costs while the animal is in their care.

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED AS A FOSTER CARE PARENT YOU MUST:

• Be eighteen (18) years or older.
• Have identification showing your present address.
• Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord.
• Be able and willing to spend the time to provide training and proper care.
• Be able and willing to provide necessary medical treatment.
• Provide veterinary information on any animals you currently have.
• Be willing to surrender the animal on request to the HES if the animals’ health is deteriorating or at the end of the 4-month foster agreement.
• Be financially responsible for medical bills incurred by the animal in foster care and liable for property damage if incurred.

The HES and MBPAC reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone.

You may either fill out an application online or you may print an application  to complete and return to the shelter in person, by mail or fax to 423-624-5017.
